What is Remedial Massage?

Remedial massage therapy is a type of massage that aims to identify and treat the source of muscular and skeletal pain. This type of therapy is different from relaxation massage, which focuses on providing relaxation and reducing stress. Remedial massage therapists work with patients to assess their specific needs and determine the underlying cause of any pain or discomfort. This may involve using various techniques to release tension in muscles, increase range of motion, and improve overall physical function. Remedial massage can be particularly beneficial for anyone experiencing chronic pain or discomfort due to injury, postural issues, or other conditions.

When should you come for a Remedial Massage?

  • For prevention and injury management from exercise or other recreational sports.

  • If you don’t have full range of movement in one part of your body eg. waking up and not being able to move your neck from side to side.

  • To help reduce stress. This can be mental or physical stress.

  • If you’re experiencing stiffness or tightness from exercise, work or lifestyle.

  • If you have lower back pain, headaches or any pain in your joints like your hips, elbows or ankles.

  • If you’re stretching and trigger balling or foam rolling and feeling like you’re not getting anywhere.

  • To help improve posture.

What to expect when coming for a Remedial Massage.

Before your treatment begins your therapist will go over a health history with you. This will include things like currently health issues, past or current injuries and lifestyle questions around why you are coming into the treatment to begin with. This is so they can have holistic overview of how you use (or misuse) your body.

Based on the conversation you have with your therapist they then will have a look at things like your posture, how a certain area moves and do some muscle testing to determine any under lying causes or issues that might be contributing to your symptoms. This is when they will create a treatment plan specific to your needs.
